Refueling the Think Tank

Alright. It's thursday. After almost locking myself in the studio (a blue-gutted time warp device) for the past 2 weeks, I feel it's time to decompress--you know, brew some peppermint tea, eat some real food, take a bath...

Did I miss the deadline for submitting my April Fool's joke to the blogosphere?

*unsettling mic feedback*

Okay. So maybe I don't yet qualify for the bathing option--if there even is one (I doubt it).

From the beginning of time, hard-core creatives have been known to be ridiculously particular about the conditions under which they do the inspired do. In fact, I've got a free Creative Chief of Publik Transit membership itching to pounce on anyone (PKT staff not eligible) who can answer this question: How can anyone in his right mind surround himself with literally every tool he needs to make it through the gauntlet of naysayers circled around a bonfire of recording equipment on the lawn, and not be inspired?

I'll tuck my free membership offer away somewhere safe, until someone worthy passes my perpetual quiz of muse and other studio fever-induced ramblings. In the meantime, I want to know what inspires you. How do you decide which pieces (and this applies to any artist) deserve enough of your attention to actually be completed before the apocalypse. What makes you excited about the genre/discipline with which you chose to express yourself? What about your chosen path drives you insane (insane enough to create a work that no one will recognize, or even be able to describe, for the next two decades)?

As I kick off a blog series of indeterminable length, highlighting some of the wonders and horrors of the creative process, I'd like for you to get your juices going, and share your insight/experiences with us!

This is what you do:
